"Who knew Eijirou was such a space nerd?"
"Yeah, since when have you been the local expert on comets?"
Katsuki hears them over the bar in the dorm kitchen. Sounds like they got derailed from yet another physics problem on their assignment. He rolls his eyes. Steps away for one minute to finish up the food and they're already off task.
"I've always liked astronomy! Space is cool!" Eijirou insists. "I used to look at planets with my telescope and watch meteor showers at night with my parents as a kid." Eijirou pauses and bashfully rubs at the back of his neck. "Uh well, but I guess I haven't really been into it in a while. I had an ex in high school, and our anniversary always fell around a meteor shower. I always asked him if we could watch it together, like begged him. But he never really wanted to."
A vein twitches on Katsuki's temple and he nearly drops the hot pan as he pulls it out of the oven.
"Begged him? Bro, that's pretty sad."
"Whaaat? That would have been so romantic!"
"Damn that's lame dude."
The idiots are right about that. Even if he only showed it for a second, Katsuki could see how dejected Eijirou was about it even from over here. It seems like such a simple thing, and to deny him that— Eijirou, literal sunshine incarnate— because of what, laziness?
"Yeah, so I kinda just never got back into it after that," Eijirou finishes, quickly moving on with a self-dismissive shrug.
Katsuki flicks the oven off and picks up his phone. He makes a few quick searches. Checks his calendar. Clicks his phone off and slides it into his pocket.
Bet.
He piles their food onto a few plates and carries them out to the large table they're gathered around. "Alright ya leeches, here's food. Now hurry up and eat so we can knock out this physics homework," he says, raising his voice over their yapping and shoving aside textbooks and calculators to make room for the plates.
They continue their idle chatter, grab some food with zero urgency whatsoever.
"I'm going to bed at 9 whether you're done or not."
That kicks their asses into gear. They can't get his help if he's asleep. Normally he would go to bed around 10, but he has a plan to make.

Friday comes around and Eijirou hears a hard knock against his door shortly after he gets back from his last class. By now he's come to recognize that knock as none other than Katsuki's. He perks up, springs up from his bed and goes to open his door.
"Hey Bakubr- oof!"
A large bag smacks him in the face.
"We're going camping this weekend, Shitty Hair. Pack a bag," Katsuki tells him, already walking back to his own dorm.
"Oh cool, where at?" he calls after him.
"Don't worry about it," Katsuki says, still clearly audible right next door. He can hear him rustling through his own bag.
Eijirou shrugs and carries the bag into his room. They don't have class Monday, so the long weekend would make for a good camping trip.
He quickly checks the weather on his phone to see what clothes to pack. Clear skies all weekend in mid-August, so definitely something cool during the day. Light winds meant the temperature could drop pretty fast at night, so he'll pack something a little warmer too.
He plugs his phone in to charge some while he packs, and his extra power bank. Water bottle, bug spray. Socks. Deodorant and dry shampoo. Katsuki would have food taken care of, but he grabs a few protein bars and a Gatorade anyway.
Katsuki's keys jingle as he locks his door. "Hurry up, we've got a hike to make before dark."
"Alright alright!" He laughs, tossing the last of his things in and throwing his bag over his shoulder. Katsuki is already off to his car by the time Eijirou locks his door and jogs after him.
He's beaming once he finally catches up. Hiking and camping with Katsuki was always a good time, and the spontaneous trips always made him a little extra giddy with excitement.
"Shotgun!" he hollers as he runs past Katsuki towards his car. Maybe he's a little too giddy.
"It's just us two, dumbass," Katsuki shouts after him, but he can hear his chuckle. "And no way in hell am I letting you drive," he adds under his breath.
They load up and strap in and Katsuki sets up the directions while Eijirou sets up the music. It's kind of cute how automatic it all is. Katsuki would probably call him sappy if he mentioned it, so he doesn't. It is awfully tempting to though, especially knowing he'd get all flustered and pink in the ears about it.
He'll wait until they're stuck in the woods together to be a menace, so Katsuki doesn't just turn the car around. Eijirou has already learned that lesson.
When they reach the spot that Katsuki declares their campsite, they unpack and pitch the tent. Just in time too, with the last of the daylight.
Eijirou goes to start the fire but Katsuki herds him into the tent. "Nope, no fire. Straight to sleep."
"Huh? Are you that tired?" That wasn't like Katsuki. Concern bubbles in his chest. "Like are you-"
"Just. Shut it." Is he blushing? It was hard to tell in the fading light. "Don't question me and go the fuck to sleep."
Eijirou deflates a little but he tries not to show it. He must fail spectacularly based on Katsuki's frown.
But it quickly gives way to a soft smile. "I'll make it up to you, promise. But just trust me and sleep."
Eijirou sighs. Maybe he has some big hike planned tomorrow or something that he wants them to get up early for. And that soft smile gives him butterflies. He couldn't say no to it. "Alright, I trust you."
They settle into the small tent, side by side in their sleeping bags. Katsuki falls asleep quickly, his soft breathing steady next to his ear.
Eijirou isn't that lucky. Normally they'd talk a bit before going to sleep. A pleasant way to end the night, and it always seemed to guide Eijirou's thoughts in a positive direction before he was left alone with them. But now he only has the sounds of crickets and the occasional owl to sit with.
The talk about astronomy earlier this week got him thinking about it again. He kind of wishes their tent had a big mesh window on top so he could look at the stars. They made tents like that right? Part of him is tempted to sneak out of the tent and stargaze, but unlike him, Katsuki's a pretty light sleeper. He doesn't want to disturb him.
He wistfully looks through the small, mesh window, only catching slivers of sky between the leaves. Oh well. Maybe another night.

Eijirou is woken up by a hand gently shaking his shoulder. Okay, not gently. "Mm?" He blinks into the dark and wipes the drool from his chin.
"C'mon, get up Eijirou," Katsuki whispers.
"N'dude, wh't time's'it?"
Katsuki snorts. "Shut up and don't worry about it. Come on."
It's pitch black and he can't see a thing. "Fine, hold on a sec, lemme just-" he pats around trying to find his phone.
"No!" Katsuki says, sounding near to panic when he grabs his hand. "No, just- here just fuckin' take my hand."
His hand is nice and warm, and he clearly knows more about what's going on than Eijirou. And he trusts him. So yeah, he does. "Sure man, whatever you say," he mumbles sleepily.
He let's Katsuki lead him out of the tent. It's still dark as hell but his eyes are starting to adjust. The tall grass rustles under their feet as Katsuki drags them away from their little campsite.
The trees thin a bit, opening into a small clearing within the woods. Eijirou rubs his eyes and tries to blink away the last of sleep from them.
He looks up as they reach the center of the meadow, still holding Katsuki's hand.
Wow. The stars are gorgeous. So clear and so little light pollution out here that you can even see the Milky Way.
Is that Venus? It probably is. He doesn't really notice Katsuki pulling him down to sit. Is the moon not up yet? He's not sure what time it is but he doesn't see it, and he didn't think to check the moon phase.
There's a flash of movement in the corner of his eye. Wait. But it's gone when he turns to look. Was that—? He had blinked so he wasn't sure. He stares hard at the stars, waiting to see if it would happen again.
Sure enough, after a few seconds, a star shoots across the sky. And then another. His jaw drops. And another.
Wait. Mid-August. The Perseids? His eyes dart around the sky. North Star, Ursa Minor. Cassiopeia. Taurus, and Perseus. The Perseids meteor shower.
Wide-eyed, he looks to Katsuki.
He's already looking at him and smiling like he just won the damn lottery. A billion dollar jackpot.
Like he hung the fucking stars himself and he knew it.
He's still holding his hand.
They were sitting on a quilt in the meadow, laid out on a tarp. With an extra blanket and the comforter from Katsuki's bed. And two pillows.
No wonder Katsuki's backpack had looked so full.
And it dawns on him, really dawns on him. Katsuki really hauled all this up here, planned a whole weekend trip. He even made sure he didn't use his phone, so his eyes wouldn't have to readjust to see them.
"Kats..."
Katsuki's smile falters, and he looks down at their clasped hands. "I heard what you said. About your shitty ex-boyfriend. You deserve better than that. The best." He looks back up at him, stern. "You should never have to beg for what makes you happy. It should be given to you. On a damn silver platter," he says, absolutely adamant. He squeezes Eijirou's hand, and Eijirou thinks he doesn't even realize he did it.
His heart is in his throat. In his ears. Racing. Chest so tight and full of butterflies or something and he feels like he's about to burst.
He grabs the front of Katsuki's shirt and yanks him forward. He kisses him.
Katsuki freezes. Eijirou's heart stops and the building crescendo in his chest halts.
He pulls back, Katsuki's shirt still held loosely in his hand.
Katsuki's eyes are blown wide. Mouth hanging open. He looks shocked. Like he really, really wasn't expecting Eijirou to kiss him. Like at all.
Shit.
Did he misread everything? It just felt like— and all this time—
Katsuki's brows furrow, like they would when they had a complicated problem on their homework, one that stumped even him.
Then his eyebrows shoot up, giving way to the most open, soft expression Eijirou has ever seen on him.
Katsuki surges forward, cradles Eijirou's face in his hands and presses their lips together.
Now his heart is fucking soaring.
Katsuki keeps kissing him, and kissing him. He moves to pull away and then kisses him harder, like he changes his mind, like every press of their lips is some eureka moment.
Eijirou can't help but start to giggle. Giggling to the point he's absolutely useless at kissing because his lips just pull into a wide smile.
"Shut up," Katsuki mumbles against his open mouth, frustrated. Maybe even a little embarrassed.
And Eijirou just has to openly laugh. He falls backward into their pile of blankets under the stars and Katsuki kisses and kisses him.
"You shut— the fuck up— I swear to fuck—" Katsuki growls at him between kisses, but Eijirou can hear how his lips are starting to curl on a smile and how laughter is just waiting behind his teeth.
"Nah, I don't think I will." He makes an effort to not giggle for at least a minute so he can kiss Katsuki back, run his fingers through soft blond hair. And it's worth it, with how Katsuki's breath stutters against his lips and he melts into him.
He only saw three shooting stars that night. Four if you count the first one he only caught in the corner of his eye.
But that's fine. He has no wishes to make, and there was always tomorrow night.
